5 out of 5 stars Funny   December 31, 2008
Asterix and Gaul is apparently the first in the series, written in the 60s. An absolutely fantastic start, i have to say. br /br /A Roman Centurion, Phonus Bolonus, plots to get a swig of the magic potion and holds Getafix captive in the Roman camp outside the village to have him make some. Asterix joins the druid there and together they take the greedy Roman on a hairy ride.

5 out of 5 stars Asterix rules!   April 27, 2007
Every Asterix rules, doesn't matter which one, it rules!br /These things are hilarious, has anyone ever read the French version?

5 out of 5 stars Gauls Getafix   January 21, 2007

Asterix lives in the Gaulish part of the Roman Empire. Doesn't he? Not quite, his village resists the Romans thanks to a magic potion. The Romans want some of this potion for themselves...br /br /"Asterix the Gaul" was the first Asterix comic, published in 1961. Rene Goscinny made the words and Albert Udzero did the pictures. It's a pretty good way to start the series though the sequel "Asterix and the Golden Sickle" (1962) sets up the vibe the other comics enjoy.

Wonderful. what more can I say. You got to have it.

5 out of 5 stars Asterix and Obelix   November 9, 2006
Thanks to the magic potion of the resident druid, Getafix, Asterix and Obelix triumphantly defend the borders of their village against Caesar's legions, to the legions' great dismay ("I hate those Gauls"). My personal favorite is "Asterix and Cleopatra" where they travel to Egypt to help Getafix's buddy Edifis win an architectural contest between Ceasar and Cleopatra. Oh, and the Sphinx's nose? Obelix did that. br /br /In this graphic novel series there is great storytelling, superb drawing, awful puns, wonderful sound effects (yes, really), and sneakily, insidiously, while you're laughing, you're learning.
