People, please open your mind... May 9, 2006 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
I thought this book was an excellent read. And honestly, it took a minute to adapt to the flow of the book. My statement regarding how I had to adapt is not meant to be taken negatively, but I chose to read this novel as if one of my male cousins were schooling me from his perpsective on life. No reservations, no shame, just being realistic and raw about how "some" men think, their perceptions of women and their actions. Many of us may not want to admit it, but we do have possibly one or many Bryan Terry's in our lives whether they are brothers, cousins, or even our men. And there are others of us who are simply oblivious to the fact that a human being could even think or act like that. Whether the challenge in reading this book is cultural or just pure denial, there are people in this world that act, think, and represent themselves just like the characters in this book. I believe that Mr. Wagner, like many authors took it upon himself to tell the story in hopes that each reader would be able to draw something from it. It should be an eye opener for men and women alike.
Thank you for overlooking the haters May 9, 2006 0 out of 5 found this review helpful
Thank you for over looking the obvious attempts of deliberate slander of this debut of Mr. Kerry E. Wagner from the reviewr below. It is obviously one of the better stories this year. Not because of the adversity this author has overcomed in self publishing his own works. So much so that he is getting ready to launch several works with in the next year. Has been approcahed by the likes of ZANE and Strebor books with the possibility of a publihing deal . All this from a young black author who would not allow adversity to be an excuse. He has also being courted by several film producers and playrights to buy the rights to his story. All this witout any distrubution. We thank you on behalf of author Kerry E. Wagner and Lifetime Publishers his own publishing company started out of his car. We like to thank the supporters for overlooking obvious attempts to sabotage this young author's credits witout merit and not based on this book being a definite page turner. As was stated below , they read this story in its entirety. Also note that mr. wagner does not know the below mentioned at all. this is only a blogger who doesn;t approve of mr wagner's rhetoric. W e thank her for her purchase anyway. Though attempts have been few and futal , we appreciated you over looking the view below of m.green this lady is becoming a thorn in our side. We are sure this is not a reflection of all caucasion readers who bought , enjoyed or did not enjoy it. we appreciate your support as well. But we certainly thank you for not attempting to discredit another black author for your own personal vendetta's. But as Kerry states, some people have a job to do. hers is obvously to hate. We have a job to do as well.."MAKE IT HARD FOR A HATER. Ms. Green has her work cut out for her. We suggest getting a job , at least part time . This is a career for us. Kerry appreciates all the supportive responses regarding , Thank you again , and continue to support your black author's and thank you ms. greene for your 17.99 regardless of your race . Money only comes in one color, so thank you for your green 17.99 i assure you it was not discriminated against, GET YOUR COPIES OF SHE DID THAT NOW!!!
Terrible Experience May 5, 2006 18 out of 23 found this review helpful
I was asked personally by Kerry E Wagner to read and review his book. I explained in detail to Mr. Wagner the type of books I like to read... such as romances...I expalined that I do not like violence.... and he responded "Oh read it, you will love it, It will stir your emotions."
When I finished reading ... I reviewed his book as promised...Since I didn't like the book I reviewed it on my personal blog for Mr Wagner to read ( it was just a little more private) rather than putting it on amazon.com. I told Mr. Wagner in my review that I thought he told the story well...which he did. But in all honesty...despite the fact that he told the story well...the book was not written to the standard that I am accustomed. Mr. Wagner self published the book... the grammar could only be explained as a nightmare. The subject matter was not to my liking and I expressed that in my review... now in saying that I do not mean that all will feel as I do...It just was very violent (especially toward women) and it just was not the kind of subject I like to read about.
Instead of the author being a professional and saying 'thank you for buying and reading my book'....he goes on the attack. He threatened my friend through e-mail ...My friend who never did a thing to him except like him and try to help him sell his books. My friend had already bought several copies and tried to sell them for him. She sold a couple but has been unable to sell the rest.
He then attacked me saying that I was not the intended audience...so then I wasn't sure why he asked me to read and review the book in the first place if I was not intended audience?
He then took reviews off of amazon.com along with mine from my personal blog... put them on his own blog and separated them according to race. He titled the blog "PIMPIN BLOG...THE BLACK AND WHITE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN US " at the bottom of each review he added... ( Review by Caucasian) ( Review by Black) (Review By Hispanic). Very unprofessional Mr. Wagner!
Mr. Wagner...I have been to amazon.com myself and I have seen the reviews.... Some are good...some not so good...But I am curious....How do you know which ones were caucasian and which were African America and which were hispanic? I realize you are aware that I am a caucasian lady due to seeing me on "My Space" but there are no pictures of any of these people who reviewed your book here at amazon. Are they your friends and family members? Honestly I do not care who they are... but it would be interesting to know how you know the race of each person who has reviewed your book at amazon.com and why you would spotlight that topic on your blog?
I decided to go ahead and write a review at amazon.com and I explained in great detail what had occurred. His public relations person has the nerve to accuse me of slander? First of all Ms Portis...It wouldn't be "slander" since it is written... that would be called "Liable"..."Slander" is when you say something untrue about someone verbally..."Liable" is when you say something untrue about someone in writing. Second of all...I didn't say anything that was untrue. I gave MY opinion of the book...all the rest was done by Mr. Wagner himself. Copies have been made of everything. I also have e-mails from several of Mr. Wagner's readers who were furious that he made the reviews into a race war!
So instead of using legal terms... perhaps you should be advising Mr. Wagner how unwise it is to make threats toward anyone for any reason...especially a customer who paid for their copy, read the book all the way through, and gave the author their honest opinion.
Mr. Wagner...your behavior has truly been very unprofessional. In the future...you might not want to ask people to read and review your book if you cannot take the responses you might get. As I told you before...some will like your book...some will not like your book...and it is each persons right to decide how they feel about the book...you should just take each review as a learning experience and move on. If your ego cannot take negative reviews...then focus on the positive and ignore the negative.
Wanna know what a man is thinking? READ THIS BOOK March 30, 2006 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
When I first started reading this book, I put it down because the rawness of it made me feel like I was looking somewhere I shouldn't be. Then, I met the author. He convinced me that if I could get past the roughness, which was important to write about since it explained how far Bryan Terry would come, that I would learn a lot and feel a lot. He was not playing! This book lets you peek into what a man thinks about you, whatever category you fit into. The book makes you mad at the women that played him and at him for playin' the women. You feel compassion for one or two of the women and feel such disgust for the love of his life. I won't expound because I don't want to ruin it for the people that haven't read it yet. But, once you read this, you will think about it often because you will run into people, situations and circumstances that this book addresses. I would recommend this to anyone. It changes your perspective on life.
When is "He Did That" coming out? I want to know what he is doing now.
